Drawn to areas with great altitude and clear skies, cyclops are most common in the mountains of Jotunheim. They are solitary hunters and shepherds, enjoying quiet observation. Their vision is without range, capable of focusing perfectly on any object so long as nothing stands physically in the way. From their mountain perches, they watch the land below to check what plants and animals are in season, coming down to feed at opportune times. Thickly covered in black fur, they can tough out cold mountain storms in their caves, those who keep herds of livestock cuddling with them for extra warmth.
Most cyclops dislike company, watching the paths for travelers and taking care to avoid them. They do, however, communicate with distant giants, not just other cyclops but any others who live nearby, through massive horns they carve from tree trunks. These horns carry their voices for miles, allowing conversations to be held without two cyclops ever having to share a mountain. Rarely, they meet with cloud giants for trade, getting alcohol in exchange for the cheese they ferment and store in their caves.
Cyclops spend very little time in these caves, as few are large enough for their bodies. They serve mostly as storage and occasional shelter during the worst storms of winter. Most of the year, they simply find comfortable meadows to sleep in with their herds. These meadows tend to serve as the meet-up spots when cyclops must mate, a task they get over with as quickly as possible so they can return to solitude without risking enjoying somebody’s company.
Huh, so they’re basically just giant NEETs (pun not intended)? Man, even I couldn’t imagine spending a 1000 years isolated from most people like that
Oh, impressive shading on the drawing, by the way.
Thanks, I’ve been working on trying new things with the pen, and this turned out pretty well in my opinion!
